Bröllopsstigen – The Wedding Trail

Monday, 22 November 2010 Vandringsleder Moderate Krokom Hike

Bröllopsstigen is a classic trail and has been in use at least since 1809!

The trail leads up to the summit of Mount Honingsberget at 511 m and the site of the Wedding Rock. The views from the top are wide including no less than 7 churches: Aspås, Näskott, Ås, Rödön, Frösön, Oviken and Marby. A nice spot for a break is at the top of Mount Bräckeberget also with great views. On both Honingsberget and Bräckeberget are boards describing the views.

Sights:
Bröllopsstenen –the Wedding Rock – is an unusual monument from the first half of the 1800s. On three occasions major wedding ceremonies have been staged on the summit. The reason for staging these up here in September and October remains unknown but it must have been important, considering the difficulty transporting food and china for up to as many as 96 wedding guests.

Glösa Älgriket with rock carvings made 6,000 years ago, depicting 40 elks roaming up the flat rocks on their way to winter pasture or to the land beyond the sun and the moon. The brook Glösabäcken with its scenic surroundings provides a grand backdrop to the carvings. In the Stone Age Hut you can find out how the people of that age made their living. The Elk Museum is open to the public also when not manned. In Älgerian you can buy souvenirs made of elk bone, hides and horns. There are also guided hikes, activities, Elk parties for groups and a system of trapping pits.

Travskolan Wången – the trotting high-school – provides the education and training facilities required by the horse trotting sport and furthers the sport through partnerships with the sport and other development projects; both in permanent and short courses.
