Treasure hike 16: Ljusnedal Tevån

Thursday, 18 November 2010 Vandringsleder Funäsfjällen Moderate Hike

A very pleasant walk in the woods with fine views, waterfalls and fairytale environments

The walk is marked with red elks on grey boards, with posts painted orange. There are also red markings on trees and rocks.

Take the path leading to Lake Tevsjön and a cottage and BBQ place by the lake on your left. Take the bridge across the River Tevån, at times with the opportunity of spotting salmon trout. Follow the footbridges along the shores, after about 200 metres coming up to a crossing of paths. Choose the left path, signposted ’Kalkugn’. On the left side is a corral, nowadays the pasture of Black Angus cattle. In only a few years, they have managed to clear the overgrown landscape. The observant visitor may spot two ant-hills dug out by bears between Lake Tevsjön and Tevåfallet!

After 300 metres you will again see the River Tevån. Now awaits about 1 km of uphill walk, with the River Tevån as a wonderful companion all the way; with waterfalls, currents and mystical rock formations. In complement to the great woods, the surroundings are truly enchanting.

After 200 metres of hiking along the River Tevån you will see a bridge and on the other side of the river, there is a picnic site by the highest waterfall. Get back on the path with the River Tevån on your left and continue walking upstream. Opposite the picnic site is a small pond below the waterfall, weather permitting inviting a dip. Along the shores are several fine picnic sites in thrilling settings.

Soon the path leaves the river and you will reach the next path crossing with an information point about Sömolavadet. Do not cross the river but continue up to the limestone kiln, located 100 metres from the path, for information about the kilns. Return down to the path and continue towards Dôlôs. Follow the trail and when, after 600 metres you come out of the woods, the views are magnificent: over Ljusnedalssjön, Ljusnedal, Funäsdalssjön, Brattriet and Rödvålen.

You will find even more spectacular views if you take the small path up to an outlook point at an extremely steep potato field on your right (signposted from the cleared area up to the summit ca 150 m). Return back on the path to Dôlôs.

After 200 metres you will reach a crossing. The left path leads to Dôlôs, one of the farms evacuated as Lake Ljusnedalssjön was created. Walk on the gravel road and keep right along the scenic golf course. As you reach the golf course carpark and the first tee, turn right and follow the tarmac road straight ahead. Open the pen, and close it after you, ad cross the pen straight ahead bearing left. At the house on the other side of the pen there is another gate taking you to the gravel road by the carpark. Please make sure you close the pen after you, there may be animals in there.

The alternative, about 1 km shorter, is to choose the right path towards Lake Tevsjön. Once there, turn right again. The path runs along the northern shores and here is a big picnic shelter just before the crossing and the cow-pen. Return the same way along Lake Tevsjön to the carpark.

Terrain:
Easy path in the woods, a bit uphill along the River Tevån.
