Go to sleep on the train in Gävle or Stockholm and wake up in Undersåker in Jämtland; it is easy to travel to southern Årefjällen but more difficult is leaving. There is so much tempting here making the farewell a sad sensation; a bit like saying goodbye after a first romantic meeting.

As a guest to southern Årefjällen it is easy to fall for the total infatuation – and easy for the inhabitants as well.

Just like the hikers, bikers or skiers on miles and miles of trails making their way in the enchanting surroundings, our souls are filled with the joyful sensations that make us feel good, and grow as individuals.

This almost spiritual sensation comes from the views, the active villages, the pure air and the serenity of the landscape.

Serenity and the feeling of being at one with nature cannot be fully enjoyed unless there is contrast.

Södra Årefjällen can also offer some contrasts.

Adventurous white-water rafting expeditions, dream fishing, kayak paddling, reindeer sleigh driving and excursions on horseback make the love to the area flourish. A love that grows with increased exposure.

This is unique and Södra Årefjällen is a genuine area with a heritage. This is an area where love grows and too much of a good thing could be wonderful.

Many of the visitors to Södra Årefjällen claim this is true; they want to come back to the freedom, the natural life and nature. This means they want to come back to Södra Årefjällen. And they are always just as welcome.

Become enchanted - Ottsjö Fjällhotell

Ottsjö Fjällhotell in Södra (southern) Årefjällen provides life-long memories. The easily accessed setting in Ottsjö, the genuine mountain environment and the crisp air, the welcoming personnel, the rich offering of popular activities, the restaurant’s menu where local produce provides the basis, the enchanting views over the lake and of the peaks form the basis for the experience.

Ottsjö Fjällhotell adds sensations and experiences, something that touches and enchants us.

The views over the glittering Lake Ottsjön so rich in fish, and those of the peaks Anarismassivet, Lunndörrspasset and Trondfjället are simply breathtaking. Visitors keen on history will find many interesting adventures and explorations in the surrounding mountain village Ottsjö.

Ottsjö is one of the oldest and most scenic mountain villages in the country with a heritage dating back to the Viking Era. The village currently has 85 permanent inhabitants, many of which run their own businesses and everyone is inspired by the idea of making something special out of the visitors’ stay here, something heart-warming.

No matter the time of the year or the reason for the visit – holiday, adventure trip, a conference or course – this land of contrasts will provide life-long memories. Ottsjö Fjällhotell has 19 fresh rooms of hotel standard and in all, 40 beds. Two recently renovated suites – of which the wedding suite with a jacuzzi – add to the popularity. The charming hotel chapel is a very well cared for gem and highly suitable for wedding ceremonies, christenings or perhaps as a truly unique meetings’ venue. The main issues in the popular restaurant are the locally produced ingredients, the exquisite preparation and the warm atmosphere. Some of the most enchanting views of the mountain range reinforce the impressions and make your meal into a memory to cherish.

In Ottsjö and at Fjällhotellet every-one wants you to explore the mountains in the traditional style, on your own or in the company of friends.

The options include hikes in the serenity, bike rides, dog sledding or snowmobiling, skiing, horseback riding or a snowshoe walk; everything is at your feet out of doors.

Once back inside a culinary sensation awaits you as well as quiet socialising by the fireplace. In the land of contrasts it is easy to find comfort.

Ottsjö moulds memories for life. Be careful of them, gather them close to your heart and allow yourself to be enchanted.
