Numerous are the drivers who have pulled over into the lay-by in Mattmar, stunned at the spectacular views, taken a deep breath and wondered at the peaceful beauty of nature.

The area around Mörsil and Mattmar feels both near the mountains and not far from town. This is the reason why the villages are popular as ‘base camps’ for excursions in the interesting surroundings.

This is a fertile and actively farmed region with fine farms and heritage from the Middle Age.

The terrain so near the mountains and waters rich in fish tempt anglers, berry gatherers and nature lovers. This has always been the case. Already in the 1800s, people here understood the beneficial effects of the pure healthy mountain air and started offering tourists accommodation and activities.

Make a stop at the lay-by in Mattmar, delight in the fabulous views; plan some adventures in the region between the peaks and the town. Kretsloppshuset in Mörsil, the homestead museum Römmen and the tarn Mattmartjärnen are some of the popular attractions. You will probably find some of your own too.

The Kvitsleströmmen currents are renowned as prime water for grayling and brown trout. Here, just like in the lakes Håckren and Sällsjön are fine opportunities for fly-fishing and spinning. Accommodation and activities are available near the fishing waters.
