  • Spruce shoot marinated whitefish

For 1 kg fish fillet

  • 4 tablespoons salt
  • 4 tablespoons sugar
  • 8 crushed white peppercorns
  • Young spuce shots

Freeze the fish for at least 3 days prior
to processing. Clean the fish and fillet,
mix salt and sugar and rub the fillets.
Place one fillet on top of the other with
the white peppercorns and shoots
between. Place in a plastic bag and
leave in the fridge for about two days
(depending on the size of the fillets).
Turn over twice every day. Drain the
liquid and wipe the fillets. Delicious
served in the thin traditional unleavened
bread, ‘tunnbröd’ with a good sauce.

In Bräcke Municipality the River Gimån meanders like a blue strip through the terrain. The River Gimån is an 80 km long stretch of water which all fishing aficionados mention with respect. Here are also seven hundred clean lakes with rich fish stocks; many small-scale food producers leading to various culinary sensations, and possibly the most awarded brewery in the country. Much of what counts in Bräcke is about fishing, tastes, hospitality and easy access.

Here are many activities for both sunny and rainy days. Popular destinations for excursions are all the farm shops selling delicious cheese, bread, preserves, etc. The fascinating and mythical Forsaleden tempts with a hiking trail in grand scenery and interesting cultural remains. Soothing for the mind is a dip on the fish ladder or in the lagoon in the River Forsaån, a canoe trip or a steamboat tour of Lake Revsundssjön.

Bräcke Municipality is situated right in the middle of Sweden, meaning that it is easy for everyone to travel here possibly with the intention of settling down in due course.

Bräcke wets you appetite and makes you want more.

Farm shops

Here are many activities for both sunny and rainy days. Popular destinations for excursions are all the farm shops selling delicious cheese, bread, preserves, etc.

The fascinating and mythical Forsaleden tempts with a hiking trail in grand scenery and interesting cultural remains. Soothing for the mind is a dip on the fish ladder or in the lagoon in the River Forsaån, a canoe trip or a steamboat tour of Lake Revsundssjön.

Bräcke wets you appetite and makes you want more.

Small-scale food production

The municipality has many skilled small-scale producers of foodstuff with farm shops and restaurants tempting with goat’s cheese, sausages, elk salami, charcuteries, the typical thin unleavened bread, preserves, marmalades, wine, organic chocolate, sour-dough bread and much more. You are welcome to visit but call beforehand to check the opening hours.

Fishing

The River Gimån, so rich in fish, together with the many lakes and tarns forms a fabulous sport fishing area in Bräcke Municipality. Lake Revsundssjön with a fine stock of brown trout and shrewd big pike is the favourite among trolling enthusiasts with almost a guaranteed catch when conditions are ripe. Lake Flottringen, the wilderness water, where Arctic char and brown trout hover in the late summer nights, gives the anglers extraordinary experiences.

The lakes Hemsjön, Sundsjön, Bodsjön, Hällesjön and Pån are some other waters where fishing simply has to be experienced. Famous far beyond the national borders are the excellent streams Idsjöströmmen and Stavreströmmen in the River Gimån. Fly-fishermen from all over Europe gather here.

Nautical chart of Lake Revsundssjön

Charts of Lake Revsundssjön are available for those who wish to venture out on the lake to explore Bräcke Municipality from the water. A tour round the scenic island Ammerön comes highly recommended!

Bräcke’s gem

The area around Forsa is fascinating and mythical with impressive nature. The Forsaleden trail stretches for 7 km along the River Forsaån, in parts through rocky forest terrain with natural pools and waterslides. Along the trail are information boards describing the cultural history of the area, picnic areas and beaches. Among the attractions are the rock paintings dating back to the Stone Age, the remains of Forsagården, one of the parish’s largest farms with many traditions and also Iron Age graves. Here are many rare plants due to the calciferous ground.

Speedy sensations

For those who love speed. ‘Depot Grande’ has much to offer those keen on motors sports, such as Cross-Cart.

Events

Viking market 30 June and 1 July 2012. Please see our web site for other events.

Speedy dogs

Dog sledding in the forests, across the snowscapes or on an ice-covered lake is a fast and enjoyable activity. Using a special sled you can also go dog sledding in summer.

Wild west

Old trail Town. Visit Hällesjö’s replica western town with all the features such as shops, jails and even a brothel.

Steaming trip

S/S Alma af Stavre built in 1873 services Lake Revsundssjön during the summer. Timetables are available at Turistbyrån.

Winter in Bräcke

Feeling the cold air on your face and seeing the crisp white snow is an extraordinary sensation if for the first time you are experiencing the genuine winter in Jämtland. Spend a day on skis on the tracks, in the forests or on an ice-covered lake.

Try skating indoors in an ice-skating hall or on one of the many man-made outdoor ices. There are good and gentle alpine ski slopes in both Gällö and Kälarne. Within the municipality are some 600 km of snowmobile trails, and also trails leading to Ånge in Medelpad, Åkersjön in Western Jämtland, to mention but a few. Fishing on the ice in springtime is a hard-to-forget experience. The sensation of sitting on the ice on a beautiful winter-spring day with the jigging rod in your hands, feeling the fish bite is hard to match.
