This, the gateway to Härjedalen is sometimes called the Venice of the North since Sveg, Lillhärdal, Ytterhogdal and Överhogdal are surrounded by fabulous fishing waters and grandiose nature. Here is also Kulturcentrum Mankell for budding authors seeking inspiration, and Överhogdals Forngård with a remarkable history about Viking Age tapestries. At the moose farm in Överberg you will have a unique opportunity of meeting our biggest deer, the elk or the Scandinavian moose at a very close distance – for many an unforgettable experience.
How does an author work? How does one proceed to build a story? You may find the answers to these questions when visiting Kulturcentrum Mankell in Sveg. The exhibitions not only depict Henning Mankell’s authorship but here you can also seek inspiration for your own stories.
The moose farm in Överberg offers you a unique opportunity of encountering the biggest deer at very short distance.
The elks Ivan, Inez and Isa welcome you with a friendly snooze hoping for a bit of a banana. Meanwhile you will listen to stories relating everything you always wanted to know about this King of the Forest and plenty of opportunities for taking close-up shots of these magnificent animals. It is your choice how close to the animals you want to be, if you want to greet them from the terrace in the pen or step down to the ground; with the terrace, a wheelchair is no obstacle to visiting the moose.
Överhogdals Forngård is an attraction for everyone who loves a remarkable story and unique textiles. Here is a permanent exhibition of the internationally famous tapestries ‘Överhogdalsbonaderna’, tapestries that due to unique circumstances have been preserved since the Viking Era.
Ängersjö Skogsmuseum depicts the history of forestry. Visit the shieling with goats and kids and see if you can spot all the tricky details along the nature path.
